An email MCP server for your own domains

Plainmail's remote MCP server lets Claude and other AI agents set up mailboxes on domains you own, then read and answer the mail. The mailboxes are real IMAP accounts, so you can read the same mail in Apple Mail or the Gmail app.

What an agent can do

  • Add a domain and write its MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records at your DNS host.
  • Check whether a domain's DNS is healthy and say what's missing.
  • Create mailboxes and aliases, and set the sender name.
  • List, read, send, reply to, flag and move messages, and fetch attachments.

The full list of tools is in the docs.

Things to ask

  • Set up hello@mynewapp.com on Plainmail
  • Is the DNS for mynewapp.com healthy?
  • Summarize what came into support@mynewapp.com today
  • Reply to the latest message from Maya and say the annual plan is $50

Connect it

In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http plainmail https://app.plainmail.dev/api/mcp/mcp

In Claude on the web or desktop, add a custom connector with the same URL. Cursor, VS Code and other clients with remote MCP and OAuth use it too. Step-by-step instructions are in the docs.

You stay in control

  • You sign in and choose what the agent may do: read mail, send and organize mail, or manage domains and mailboxes. Revoke access any time in Settings.
  • Mailbox passwords never pass through the agent. A new mailbox comes with a link that shows its password once, to you.
  • Email content is marked untrusted in every tool result, and the server tells the agent never to follow instructions found inside an email.
  • Daily sending limits and the no-bulk-mail rule apply to agents too.

Why a real mailbox

Plainmail puts mail on your own domains, in normal IMAP mailboxes that you and your agent both use, for $5 a month across up to 50 domains.
