Email hosting for multiple domains

Prices checked November 6, 2026

If you build things, you collect domains. Each one wants a hello@ or support@ that can send and receive. Per-user email gets expensive quickly, and forwarding can't reply from the right address. This page covers the options and what each costs.

The options

  • Forwarding (Cloudflare Email Routing, ImprovMX free plans): free, but receive-only. Replies go out from your personal address unless you add a separate sending service.
  • One mailbox with alias domains (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365): one paid user receives mail for several domains. All mail lands in one inbox, and every separate inbox is another paid seat.
  • Per-user hosts (Zoho Mail, Fastmail, Proton): cheap for a few people, but each mailbox costs extra.
  • Flat-rate hosts (Purelymail, Plainmail): one price for many domains and mailboxes.

What 6 domains and 7 mailboxes cost

HostMonthly costNotes
Plainmail$5Up to 50 domains and 100 mailboxes; DNS written for you
PurelymailAbout $1About $10 a year; you add DNS records by hand
Zoho Mail LiteAbout $7About $1 per user, billed yearly
Google Workspace$49 to $58.80$7 to $8.40 per user; includes Docs, Drive and Meet
Cloudflare Email Routing$0Receive-only forwarding; no mailbox to send from

Per-user prices come from each provider's public pricing and change from time to time. Check before you buy.

What to look for

  • Sending from each address. Replies should come from hello@yourdomain, signed with DKIM for that domain, or they land in spam.
  • DNS you don't have to babysit. Every domain needs MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records. Doing that by hand for each new project is where most setups go wrong.
  • Standard IMAP and SMTP. Then the mailboxes show up in Apple Mail, the Gmail app or Outlook next to your other accounts, and you can leave whenever you like.
  • A clean sending reputation. Cheap shared hosting is only as good as its worst customer. Look for paid-only accounts and limits on bulk mail.

How Plainmail handles it

You keep your domains and DNS where they are. Add a domain in the dashboard, or ask Claude to set up hello@mynewapp.com. On Cloudflare, Vercel and Porkbun, Plainmail writes the mail records for you. Anywhere else, it shows the exact records and checks them. Then add the mailbox to your mail app like any other account.

Mail goes out through Amazon SES, signed for your domain. Accounts are paid-only, bulk mail isn't allowed, and your dashboard shows delivery, bounce and complaint rates. See how Plainmail compares with other hosts.
